ASID Trainee’s Weekend

The ASID Trainee’s Weekend has a longstanding tradition as a highly valued educational and networking opportunity.

The Trainee Weekend is tailored for incoming and current trainees and new Fellows. In 2024, the second day will be co-delivered with ASID’s Immunocompromised Host Special Interest Group (ICHSIG) for a deep dive into infections in Immunocompromised hosts.

This is a free event for ASID Trainees thanks to generous support from ASID and RACP/Department of Health.

The Healthcare Infection Control Special Interest Group (HICSIG) Education Day is targeted to Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Trainees and Consultants, particularly Consultants who have recently obtained Fellowship.

  • The Healthcare Infection Control Special Interest Group (HICSIG) Education Day is targeted to Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Trainees and Consultants, particularly Consultants who have recently obtained Fellowship. The event will cover important topics in Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship to serve as a robust foundation to inform Consultant practice in these areas. The program will be delivered by expert Infectious Diseases Physicians who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare associated infections, hospital epidemiology, outbreak management and optimising use of antimicrobial agents.

    Venue: Lecture Theatres at the Alfred Hospital. Directions.

    • Interactive workshops including:

    - Microbiology 101 with Dr Sadid Khan
    - Pharmacokinetics for the ID registrar with Dr Rekha Pai Mangalore and Rachael Leng
    -Transition to Fellowship panel with Dr Yara Abo, Dr Michael Moso, Dr Linny Phuong, Dr Beatrice Sim and Dr Alex Tai.

    • Dr Sarah McGuiness: Approach to fever in the returned traveller

    • Dr Claire Dendle: Pulmonary infiltrates in the immunocompromised host
